Adding a Sub Record Field into a Grid or Scroll Area

No votes yet

I kept getting this weird PeopleSoft error when trying to drop a sub record field into a Grid or Scroll area on a page. The error was this:

Fields from subrecords are not allowed to be inserted directly into the page. Use Subpage instead.

What? You have to be kidding me! I know this could be done and I don’t need a subpage for this. I’ve seen it done and I’ve actually got it done! This is what I did.

Open the page the scroll or grid is on, on the menu bar, click on “Edit Box” move your cursor to the grid where you want the field to go. Left click and voila you have a dummy field on the grid. Now double click on it and choose your record and field name, hit ok and save.

I really don’t understand whey I kept getting this annoying error. But just in case anyone was getting it, there is a way around it.

I think you are opening

I think you are opening subrecord and then trying to drag a field from that subrecord on to the grid or scroll. we cannot do that way since subrecord is assoicated with multiple records and field on the page cannot have record assoicated with it.

You need to open the actual sql table record or View and expand the subrecords in that recrod and drag the field from it and drop it on the page.

Just open the subrecord, add it to your development tab and then add the field to the grid.

Re: Adding a Sub Record Field into a Grid or Scroll Area

Thanks lepa but i think we cannot drag a field directly from a subrecord in a page , it needs to be associated to a record and after expanding the record we dag drop the sub record fields.Point is my Record which is using a subrecord does not get expanded in Development tad hence im unable to drag drop the required field.
How do i expand record in Development tab

Add the field that you want to insert into your development tab then drag it to the grid, you can then double click on the field and specify the record it should be coming from.
